I quickly put the telephoto lens on to capture this shot of the
visiting Goodyear Blimp, passing low overhead. It was in Toronto for
the weekend series against the New York Yankees. Our Blue Jays were
still at Exhibition Stadium.

In a scene that cannot be taken now, VIA LRC locomotive 6904, with an
all LRC train, is being pushed by CN 8519, to Union Station, from the
washrack, at Spadina coachyard. Several of these shots were taken
from the open walkway along the back of the Metro Toronto Convention
Center, now referred to as the North Building. This walkway was
closed off two years later, after propane cylinders, used by tow
motors and fork lift trucks for show setups, exploded.

What a neat old pic Clayton. I remember the LRC's through town here for a
while when we first moved here.

What I wonder is why the train was being pushed? It had a good engine at
the head don't you think?

An added footnote, all trains coming to and from the coachyards at
that time were moved to and from the coachyard to Union Station and
back by switcher engines. The train crews took over from there. On

So are you saying there were no crews on board and the VIA train crews board
at Union Station?

That's correct. Shop crews always took the trains to and from Union
Station to the coachyards. Overnight trains such as The
Supercontinental, and the Cavalier, and the Ontario Northland, would
first be turned on the "Balloon Track". A loop that ran behind the
